ALLA KORZH
About
Dr. Alla Korzh is Associate Professor of International Education at the School for International Training (SIT) Graduate Institute, USA. She is an educator, researcher, and practitioner in the field of comparative and international education with a regional focus on Eastern Europe and education development. She holds a doctorate in international educational development from Teachers College, Columbia University; an M.Ed. in Instructional Leadership from the University of Illinois at Chicago; and a B.A. in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the Nizhyn State Pedagogical University in Ukraine. Prior to joining SIT, she was a post-doctoral research scholar at the Center for Institutional and Social Change at Columbia Law School.
Dr. Korzh’s research focuses on education inequities experienced by socio-economically disadvantaged children, youth, and adults at the secondary and post-secondary education levels. She has conducted qualitative research with orphans and incarcerated women in Ukraine, as well as formerly incarcerated women in New York City. Her recent collaborative research project examined transnational young adults’ participation in social movements and informal citizenship education. Her current research project investigates educational aspirations of incarcerated women in a minimum-security prison in Ukraine and barriers they face post-incarceration.
Dr. Korzh has been involved in nonprofit start-up, program design, implementation, and management with Sublimitas, where she serves on the board. She has also served on the American Association of University Women selection panel and is a member of the Comparative and International Education Society, where she mentors budding scholars as part of the New Scholars Committee. Dr. Korzh’s publications include peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and a co-edited book: Reimagining Utopias: Theory and Method for Educational Research in Post-socialist Contexts (Sense Publishers).
